Poem: The Future of My Kind

Sri Devi Om
2 min readApr 13, 2024

A poem about what motivates me to write. Beyond that, it reflects my perspective on life where I do not labor for money, name, or fame. I work because it comforts me, knowing I’m doing my part in shaping a better and brighter future for this world. Furthermore, I like to push myself to learn and grow because I feel stagnation in personal development and laziness are worse than death.

When shadows loom, and burdens weigh,
To toil when no desires sway,
To labor past all earthly quests,
When beyond it all, my spirit rests.

To strive and watch results stray,
To find scant progress day by day,
To witness my efforts tossed astray,
Yet, to never let my resolve fray.

To sacrifice my whims and will,
Through storms fierce and trials that gall,
To feel my presence softly fade,
Still onward, in silence, unswayed.

My beloved friend, I hold the course,
Not for wealth, nor fortune’s force,
But in my toil, a peace divine,
My labor frees this soul of mine.

On Earth, our Karma’s sphere,
In work, my essence stays clear,
In every endeavor, a calm I find,
For in my labor is the future of my kind.

Om Tat Sat.
